Which Nail Services Will Last the Longest?
Having your nails professionally done may feel like a luxury, but we all know it’s really a necessity. Why? Primarily it’s a function of time, talent, and the desire to look put together for a reasonable cost. To get the most bang for your buck, and to save you an extra week between appointments, let’s look at which nail services will last the longest–and which ones you are likely to enjoy most.
If you search Pinterest and Instagram, you will find a lot of DIY nails, from tutorials on how to file and shape your nails to cleaning the cuticle and painting them with some cool cats-eye polish that requires expert application. Most of us have tried one of those new, fun techniques, only to discover that it takes FOREVER. Not only that, but it is also an art form that requires a steady hand, even when that hand is your non-dominant hand, the one you never realized was so incredibly weak and doesn’t listen to commands.
The result? Smudged, gloppy, streaked nail polish that still hadn’t dried by the time you were ready to go to bed. It’s this experience that propels us into the salon, has us sitting down in the chair with a sigh of relief, and walking out feeling like a million bucks.
The Signature Manicure
At Arista Spa & Salon, the Arista Signature Manicure promises to get your hands in perfect shape. Not only will we clean the cuticles, shape, file and buff your nails, and apply nail polish, we will also pamper you with a soak, exfoliate your hands so your skin is soft and smooth, and give you a hand and arm massage that you will want to go on forever.
A manicure using regular nail polish will last between five to seven days. This time frame can be affected by several variables, including how well it was applied, your lifestyle, and daily habits.
There are some things you can do to keep your manicure looking good and give it the chance to hit the seven-day mark. Those include:
- If you are active in sports or at the gym, choose a nude color that won’t show chips as easily, or consider a couple coats of a glitter polish that can take a beating.
- Limit the use of hand sanitizer—the alcohol in it dries out not only your hands but your polish, too.
- Wear gloves when cooking with coconut oil and use coconut-free lotion on your hands.
- Wear gloves when washing dishes and using chemical cleaners around the house.
- Eat plenty of protein and drink a lot of water.
In contrast to regular polish, a no-chip manicure, also referred to as gel polish or shellac, lasts for at least two weeks. Technically, the polish itself can, and often does, last much longer, but the outgrowth at the nail base becomes apparent and is the primary reason nail technicians recommend two weeks between manicures when using no-chip polish.
At Arista Spa & Salon, the Arista Signature Manicure can be done with no-chip polish instead of regular polish at your request. A small fee is charged for the upgrade.
